Dan Siegel’s 4 S’s

We approach counselor development with Dan Siegel’s 4 S’s in mind:

Safe
We focus on making sure counselors are supported in their developmental growth as new clinicians and respond with encouragement and celebration
Seen
We focus on making sure the voice of the therapist is their voice, helping them find their own footing and approach
Soothed
We focus on what it is like to carry the weight of all that is explored in the therapy rooms and take care of the counselor
Secure
We create a contract together to address expectations up front so that both supervisor and supervisee can have goals met
To Feel Safe in Supervision
Feeling safe

To Feel Safe in Supervision

We focus on making sure counselors are supported in their developmental growth as new clinicians and respond with encouragement and celebration as progress and goals are met. We create safety in the supervision room so that the human side of the therapist (the person of the therapist) can be present as they encounter their own stories being impacted by the rooms they are sitting in.

Feeling seen

To Feel Seen in Supervision

We focus on making sure the voice of the therapist is their voice. It is not the role of the supervisor to teach counselors to do therapy the way we would do it. Instead, through videos and role plays we help the counselor find their own footing as a therapist, their own approach that matches their personality and goals in the work they want to do with clients. Counselors also help create the agenda for each supervision meeting so that their needs are met each week.

Feeling soothed

To Feel Soothed in Supervision

We focus on what it is like to carry the weight of all that is explored in the therapy rooms and make sure to take care of the counselor impacted by the stories and the experiences they are sitting with in the therapy room. We grieve with our counselors as they grieve for their clients just as we celebrate with them as they celebrate with the clients’ progress.

Feeling secure

To Feel Secure in Supervision

We create a contract together to address expectations up front so that both the supervisor and supervisee can have goals met in the relationship of supervision. Security comes from consistent times to meet, consistent triad partners to experience supervision with, and consistent availability to support in times of crisis. We set up supervision so that you are never doing this work alone.

If this feels like the kind of supervision you are looking for, join us at Cypress. Supervision can be provided for Master’s level counselors working at Cypress or counselors working offsite at local counseling centers in the community.
