Jenny lokey BA, Mental Health INtern

Hi there – I’m Jenny! I’m currently a Master’s Level Intern pursuing a M.A. in Mental Health Counseling from Belmont University.

I know the journey into counseling can be intimidating. I remember the feeling of scheduling my first appointment several years ago and feeling defeated; I no longer knew how to manage my life circumstances on my own and needed guidance. In a world where self-sufficiency and independence are praised, asking for help can feel really hard. Yet we humans are not meant to do life on our own. We’re social beings designed for connection; we need each other. In the same way that we need family, friends, and community, we often need counselors. We need someone to listen without bias, to sit with us in our grief and pain and struggle, to encourage us, to help us see things in a new light. And while our family and friends might be able to do all of the above, sometimes we need additional resources. That’s where counseling comes in. If you’re in a place where you’ve tried everything you know to do and things still aren’t working or getting better, I would be honored to come alongside you.

As your counselor, I strive to foster a therapeutic relationship built on empathy, understanding, and trust, so that you can feel confident bringing your full self to each session. Through a calm, steady presence, I aim to provide the space you need to process, grow, and heal. My approach is holistic in nature, focused on the whole person – mind, body, soul; if interested, you are welcome to integrate your faith or spiritual beliefs into therapy, knowing that they will be honored and respected. Ultimately, this will be a collaborative experience; we’ll work together to identify the solutions needed to live the full life you desire.

Originally from Massachusetts, I moved to Nashville in 2010 to attend Belmont University and it’s been my home ever since. I started my career in the music industry before pivoting to higher education, where I’ve spent the last 6.5 years. Much of my time in higher ed has involved guiding and mentoring students navigating young adulthood and life transitions as they pursue careers in the music industry. Because of this, I understand the unique lifestyle and challenges that often come with that particular career field. In addition, I’ve spent several years engaging in counseling, both individually and alongside my husband. My passion for serving others and my appreciation of the therapeutic process have led me here.

My hope is to make the counseling journey a bit easier for you to step into. If you’re interested in working together, please reach out and we’ll find time to chat further.
