We often want to bring in our spiritual life as we are processing difficult seasons of change, transition, loss and struggles with mental wellness. For some, this may look like a very integrated process of talking about the conflicts and struggles as they share what that feels like spiritually too. For others, it may include talking about ways they feel the most settled and content without ever mentioning a spiritual side to their story.
All of these ways of approaching therapy are open in the work you can do at Cypress.
We deeply understand that spirituality isn’t always simple. Many people carry wounds from religious or faith-based experiences that have left them feeling shame, fear, guilt or confusion. Some have had such sharp experiences inside a space meant for spiritual connection that they can be distrusting of others leading them or distrusting of their own instincts.
The therapist’s role is to “hold the flashlight” on your spiritual walk to better understand what you believe and what you need. The beauty of therapy is that your spiritual walk is your own individual walk—you just don’t have to walk alone.

Healing can mean learning to trust again—to explore your own beliefs, ask honest questions, and reconnect with the God of your understanding in a way that feels authentic and safe. For those of us walking through deconstruction or spiritual exploration, therapy offers a compassionate space to untangle beliefs that now feel confusing, examine long-held narratives, and make room for what feels the most true to you now.
We may have experienced religious trauma and can now recognize how damaging it can be when spiritual messages become sources of guilt, shame, or fear rather than love and acceptance. Together, we work to name those experiences, release what no longer serves you, and rebuild a sense of spiritual safety and belonging.
Ultimately, we believe each person carries an Inner Knowing—a quiet wisdom that guides you toward healing and wholeness. Our therapists help you access that deeper sense of truth and connection, so spirituality once again becomes a place of peace, purpose, and integration.
