We Help People Feel Known, Valued, and Connected.

Founded & Led by
Carla & Paul Babb

Cypress Counseling Group began with a belief: that therapy should help people reconnect with themselves and others.

Our name reminds us of strength, rootedness, and growth, qualities that help you weather any season of life. Since 2011, The Cypress Counseling Group has existed to help with trauma recovery, depression, co-dependency, anxiety, relationship issues, parenting, substance abuse issues, and grief. Our mission is to facilitate emotional health and healing through true connection and to allow clients to experience authentic emotions through an understanding of their own emotional needs.
Our Philosophy

Story-Informed. Heart-Led.

We believe healing happens in relationship, where evidence-based practices meet genuine compassion and presence. At Cypress, our work is guided by authenticity, compassion, honor, and presence. These are our four pillars that shape every client relationship.
Authenticity

Our first priority as therapists is to live our own lives with authenticity by showing on the outside what we are experiencing on the inside, to allow our true experience of living and feeling to be displayed to those around us. We seek to bring authenticity into the counseling relationship to help our clients find wholeness and balance in their work towards healthy living.

Compassion

In the counseling relationship, compassion allows feelings to expand and allows tenderness to resurface. At Cypress, we believe having compassion towards our clients helps illuminate a path to healing.

Honor

Your story, complete with all its strengths and the weaknesses, is real and true. We believe that honoring all parts of your story are what will allow for real connection and emotional intimacy.

Presence

Presence creates a safe place for clients to explore what is comfortable and what is feared. Presence allows for old wounds to be healed in a setting of care and concern. We will strive for presence in the relationships we build.

what our clients have said
Testimonial
"I wasn't sure what to expect when I started therapy, but it has genuinely changed my life. Over the past five years, I've learned that therapy isn't just about talking through problems—it's about having someone truly invested in understanding you and helping you grow. What surprised me most was how much having a skilled, compassionate guide makes a difference."

your story matters
At our core, we all come into the world looking for someone looking for us.
Therapy offers a space to be seen, known, and understood where your story matters and your needs are met with compassion. Together, we begin the healing work of being found and finding yourself again. In therapy, that’s where we begin, by slowing down enough to truly see and be seen.

FAQ

How do I get started?

It's simple. Reach out through our contact form, email, or phone, and we'll set up a consultation to learn what you're looking for. From there, we'll match you with the therapist who best fits your needs and schedule your first session. We'll walk with you from there.

How do I know if you're the right therapists for me?

Therapy works best when you feel comfortable with your therapist. If after a few sessions it doesn't feel like the right fit, that's okay—we'll help you connect with someone else, even outside our practice if needed. Our priority is that you get the care that's right for you.

Is what I say in therapy confidential?

Yes. What you share stays between you and your therapist, with only a few exceptions for safety reasons (like if someone is in danger). Your privacy and trust are very important to us.

What kinds of issues do you help with?

We work with clients on a wide range of challenges, including anxiety, depression, stress, relationship concerns, self-worth, trauma, and more. If you're not sure if your situation "fits," reach out—we'd love to talk with you about how we can help. Or take a look at our How We Help page for details on the issues we work with and what our approach targets with you.

How long will I need to be in therapy?

It depends on your goals. Some people come for a few months to work through a specific concern, while others find ongoing therapy valuable for long-term growth. We'll check in regularly to make sure therapy is supporting you in the way you need.

Do you take insurance?

Most of our therapists are out-of-network with insurance companies, which means you pay the full fee directly to the therapist and we provide superbills (receipts for reimbursement). We keep it simple and transparent.

How much does therapy cost?

Our session fees range from $50–$100 when working with our interns, as well as some of our seasoned therapists who may have a sliding scale slot available. Many of our seasoned therapists range from $125–$200 per hour depending on training and experience. We know therapy is an important investment, and we're happy to talk with you about payment options, out-of-network insurance benefits, Health Savings Accounts, or reimbursements from a church or sponsor so you know what to expect.

What is a therapeutic intensive and why is it helpful?

A therapeutic intensive is a longer, focused block of therapy—often a half-day or multi-day session—designed to go deeper than weekly sessions allow. Intensives give you the space to really focus, process, and make meaningful progress in a shorter time frame. They can be especially helpful if you're working through something significant, want to accelerate growth, or need time away from daily demands to focus fully on healing.

Where do I meet you for my first appointment?

Our office is located at 103 Continental Place, Suite 400, in Brentwood, TN. When you arrive, come into the lobby and make yourself comfortable. Your therapist will meet you there and bring you back for your session. No paperwork at the door or complicated check-ins—just a warm welcome.

How long are sessions, and how often do we meet?

Sessions are typically 50 minutes. Many clients start with weekly sessions, but we'll figure out the pace that feels right for your needs and your schedule. Many counselors also offer half-day sessions and full day or multi-day intensives if you want to really sink into the therapy work together.

Do you provide Telehealth and In-person Therapy?

Absolutely. We offer both in-person and Telehealth sessions. Telehealth allows you to meet with your therapist online through a secure video platform. You can log in from home, your office, or anywhere you feel comfortable and private. It's flexible, convenient, and just as personal as meeting in person.

How does Group Therapy work?

Group therapy brings together a small group of people, led by one of our therapists, to explore shared challenges and experiences. It's a chance to connect with others who "get it," while practicing new skills and receiving support. Many clients find groups powerful because they offer both understanding and a sense of community. Check out our Groups page to learn more about the groups offered here at Cypress.

Do you prescribe medication?

Yes. We have two trusted medication providers affiliated with our practice—Madelaine Long, PA-C, and Kurt Moss, PMHNP, BC. If medication is something you'd like to explore, we can connect you with them. Some clients benefit from combining therapy and medication, while others prefer to focus only on therapy. We'll support whatever feels best for you.

What happens in the first session?

The first session is about getting to know each other. We'll ask a few questions about what brings you in, what you'd like to work on, and answer any questions you have. It's less about "fixing everything right away" and more about creating a safe, supportive space where we can begin the process together. You will get to share what you feel most comfortable sharing about the pain and the struggle you are experiencing, but you get to determine the pace of the counseling session.
